You can contact a provider directly after OAP registration. Find a provider in your region and sign up.

What does Foundational Family Services include

Five service categories delivered virtually, in person, or as self directed programs. You can access services from any provider in Ontario, regardless of where you live.

Service categories

  • Family and peer mentoring — connect with other families who have been through similar experiences.
  • Caregiver workshops with follow up coaching — learn strategies you can use at home, then get coaching to put them into practice.
  • Brief targeted consultations — short term sessions to help build specific skills.
  • Transition supports — help with big changes like starting school or moving toward adulthood.
  • Family resource and clinic days — one day events where you can meet professionals and get quick consultations.

How do I sign up for Foundational Family Services

You contact a provider directly. This is different from other OAP programs where AccessOAP sends invitations. For FFS, you find a provider and reach out yourself. There is no single centralized assignment — families typically contact one or more FFS providers to ask what they offer and to register.

  1. Register in the Ontario Autism Program if you have not already (through accessoap.ca).
  2. Find a Foundational Family Services provider in your region (the OAP Provider List is one place to look). Families can also access FFS from any FFS provider in Ontario, regardless of where the family lives.
  3. Contact the provider directly and register for the services you want.

AccessOAP does not send FFS invitations

Do not wait for AccessOAP to contact you about FFS. You find and contact the provider yourself. Availability, scheduling, and which categories are offered vary by provider and region — not every provider runs every type of workshop or consultation. New workshops and programs get added throughout the year, so check back regularly.

Does using FFS affect my Core Clinical funding

FFS is part of OAP and is offered alongside Core Clinical — using FFS is not designed to reduce or delay your Core Clinical funding, and many families use both. AccessOAP is the source of truth for your Core Clinical timing.

  • You can use FFS at the same time as CMEY (if your child is 12 to 48 months).
  • You can use FFS at the same time as Urgent Response Services if needed.
  • SSAH and DTC are separate programs with their own eligibility rules — do not assume FFS use automatically affects them.

What mistakes do families make with FFS

Not knowing these services exist. Many families spend years focused on the Core Clinical waitlist without realizing they can get free support right now.
Assuming you need a Core Clinical invitation first. You do not. OAP registration is all you need.
Waiting for AccessOAP to send you something. FFS is different. You find and contact the provider yourself. AccessOAP does not send FFS invitations.
Not checking with providers regularly. New workshops and programs get added throughout the year.
